  SiteWorx Subdomains Tutorial

Many websites utilize subdomains for various purposes, such as redirecting users to a specific portion of the website. One excellent example of this is about.com, where all manner of subdomains are used for different "guides," such as chess.about.com, economics.about.com, and coffeetea.about.com. The SiteWorx Subdomain facility enables to create subdomains of your own, each of which redirects users to a specific directory in your website.

To access the SiteWorx Subdomain facility, you may click on the Subdomains link in the Left Control Panel menu, as illustrated below:

Subdomains on Control Panel Menu

Creating Subdomains
  1. We can create any number of subdomains, up to the allotted limit (if any) of subdomains assigned to our account. We will begin by creating a subdomain, carrots.healthyjuice.com. The first step is to input "carrots" into the Subdomain: input box of the Subdomain Management sub-window, as demonstrated below:

  2. We continue by pressing the Add button:

  3. SiteWorx reports our success:

Editing Subdomains

  1. At times, it may be necessary to rename or delete subdomains. This is also easily accomplished, using the Delete and Edit buttons adjacent to each existing subdomain associated with our SiteWorx account:

  2. For sake of example, we will begin by first renaming our subdomain from "carrots.healthyjuice.com" to "celery.healthyjuice.com." To accomplish this, we must first press the Edit button next to the existing "carrots" subdomain:

  3. We are next presented with a screen where we can edit the subdomain's name. We simply replace the word "carrots" with "celery," as depicted below:

  4. To cause the change to take effect, we continue by clicking on the Edit button:

Important NOTE: If you edit a subdomain, the directory to which the subdomain redirects traffic will also be modified. As a result, you may have to move files from the former subdomain directory to the new subdomain directory.

  5. SiteWorx reports our success, and the change has taken effect:

  1. We will now continue by deleting our subdomain. From the Subdomain Manager screen, we must press the delete button next to the subdomain we wish to remove:

  2. SiteWorx will prompt us to confirm the deletion. We will confirm by pressing the Delete button:

  3. SiteWorx reports our success, and our subdomain is deleted.
