SiteWorx Pointer Domain
Tutorial
Before you attempt to create a pointer domain, you
need to have an alternate domain name with nameservers
pointing to NEXCESS.NET's DNS servers. The reason for
this is because SiteWorx will check the domain to make
sure it's resolving to NEXCESS.NET's DNS servers before
it creates the pointer domain. Your pointer domain
won't work if it's not resolving to NEXCESS.NET first.
A pointer domain is a second domain that points to
your hosting account. This means that you can have
yourdomain.com, yourdomain.net and your-domain.org
all pointing to the same location as your primary domain.
This will allow people to access your primary domain
name using any one of several domain names.
Setting Up a Pointer Domain
- This tutorial assumes that you've already logged
into SiteWorx and you're on the SiteWorx Overview
page. Your screen should look like this:
- In order to setup a Pointer Domain, you need to
click on the 'Pointer Domain' button in the Left
Control Panel Menu.
- You should now be on the Pointer Domain page.
- Enter the name of the domain that you'd like to
point to your primary domain.
- Click the 'Add' button to create your pointer
domain.
- Once you press the 'Add' button, it make take
several minutes for SiteWorx to check the validity
of your pointer domain. If your pointer is resolving
improperly or doesn't exist yet, you will see this
error message.
- Your screen should look like this while SiteWorx
is checking your pointer domain and setting it up.
- When your pointer domain has been added, you should
receive this successful message. You should also
see your pointer domain in the list below.
- If you need to delete a pointer domain, click
the 'Delete' button next to the pointer you'd like
to delete. You should now be at this delete confirmation
page.
- Click the 'Delete' button and wait for SiteWorx
to remove your pointer domain. You should now be
back on the main Pointer Domain page and see that
your pointer domain has been deleted.
