  SiteWorx FTP Account Management Tutorial

FTP Accounts are one of the typical ways that files are uploaded to your server. In many instances, especially for large websites, it can be useful to have multiple FTP Accounts, especially when different individuals are reponsible for updates/maintenance of specific portions of a website. SiteWorx's FTP Account Management facility provides you with the ability to create as many FTP Accounts as you wish (up to the limit, if any, that has been set on the number of FTP Accounts you are allowed).

To access the FTP Account Management facility, you may click on the FTP Accounts link in the Left Control Panel menu, as illustrated below:

The result of clicking on this menu item is the FTP Account Management Screen, similar to that displayed here:

Creating FTP Accounts

We may add any number of FTP accounts, up to the limit (if any) of FTP accounts assigned to our SiteWorx account.

There is always at least one FTP account on your server, termed the Master Account. This account, which cannot be deleted, has complete access to all files stored for your domain. The username for this account is ftp@yourdomain.com (in the case of our tutorials, ftp@healthyjuice.com). Any additional accounts that you create are termed Secondary Accounts, and can be adjusted so that they are only authorized to access a specific portion of your site's directory tree.

  1. We will begin our tutorial by creating an additional FTP account, with the username "Kelsey" and password 4jdf34. The first step is to put "Kelsey" into the FTP Username: input box of the Add an FTP Account sub-window. We must also put the password in each of the appropriate Password/Confirmation boxes, as illustrated below:

  2. We will also limit Kelsey's access to /home/healthyjuice/healthyjuice.com/html/ by setting the appropriate Home (i.e. root) directory for the FTP Account:

  3. We continue by pressing the Add button:

    FTP Account Creation 3

  4. SiteWorx reports our success, and we can note that our new account has been added to the list of Existing FTP Accounts:

Editing Existing FTP Accounts

In instances when FTP Accounts need to be edited, such as having their username, password or home directory changed, SiteWorx enables us to easily peform account modifications. For the sake of example, we will modify the "kelsey" account that we just created, giving it additional access, changing its password and calling it "ally".

  1. We begin by clicking the Edit button adjacent to the "kelsey" account.

    FTP Account Edit 1

  2. Next, we modify the entries as required, changing the username, password and home (i.e. root) directory:

    FTP Account Edit 2

  3. To have our changes take effect, we press the Save button:

    FTP Account Edit 3

  4. SiteWorx reports that we have been successful, which is also illustrated by the modified account information, as highlighted below:

    FTP Account Edit 4

  1. We will continue by now deleting the FTP account we created. First, we must press the Delete button adjacent to the account's username:

    FTP Account Edit 5

  2. Next, we must confirm the deletion. This is accomplished by pressing the Delete button:

    FTP Account Edit 6

  3. SiteWorx will report that our deletion has been successful:
