This tutorial discusses how to manage all aspects of
your e-mai service using SiteWorx.
Quick
Index
Overview
The SiteWorx E-mail Management facility provides you
with an easy-to-use system for complete management of all
aspects of your domain's e-mail services. This includes
adding and removing e-mail boxes, creating and deleting
aliases and acconts, setting-up spam filters, and configuring
webmail services.
You may access the E-mail Management facility at any
time, simply by clicking on the "E-mail" option in the
Left Control Panel Menu:
The result of clicking this button is the E-mail Management
screen, similar to that depicted below:
If you wish to access your server's webmail system, simply
click on the link entitled [Webmail], as illustrated
below.
Following is an overview of other common SiteWorx E-mail
Management tasks:
Managing Mailboxes Part 1: Creating a New Mailbox
Mailbox management in SiteWorx typically involves the
creation of new mailboxes and editing options for existing
mailboxes. We will assess both in turn, by first creating
a new mailbox and then by editing options of that mailbox.
- Once we have logged in and are on the E-mail management
screen, we must select the appropriate option to manage
our mailboxes. There are three locations you can click
on to do this; the Mailboxes sub-menu item on the left
Control Panel (1), the E-mail Menu in the E-mail Management
sub-window (2), or the text "Mailboxes" in the E-mail
Stats listing (3), as depicted below:
- The result of clicking on one of these options is
the screen depicted below, which provides us with the
ability to add new mailboxes and edit existing mailboxes.
Since we currently have no mailboxes,
we will continue by creating one.
- First, we enter the appropriate information into the Add
an E-mail Box Input Boxes. Our new account will
be mango@healthyjuice.com with the password "fruit."
- Next, we must press the Add button:
- SiteWorx reports that it has successfully created
our new mailbox, and we can note that it is now visible
in the list of "Existing E-mail Boxes.":
Managing Mailboxes Part 2: Managing Existing Mailboxes
There are times when you may wish to change the password
of an existing mailbox, or delete it entirely. SiteWorx
provides this functionality as part of the Existing E-mail
Boxes sub-window. Following is an overview of editing and
deleting mailboxes.
- We will begin by changing the password of our "mango" e-mail
box from fruit to juice. To do this, we must first be
on the Mailbox Management screen. There are three locations
we ca click to go to this screen; the Mailboxes sub-menu
item on the left Control Panel (1), the E-mail Menu in
the E-mail Management sub-window (2), or the text "Mailboxes" in
the E-mail Stats listing (3), as shown below:
- We are presented with the Mailbox Management Screen.
We wish to click on the Edit button adjacent to our "mango" account:
- We are taken to the E-mail Box Editing Screen. In
the example below, the new password has been added.
- Next, we click on the Save button.
- Our changes will take effect immediately, and will
be confirmed as being in effect:
There are also times when e-mail accounts must be deleted.
Following is an overview of how you can delete SiteWorx
e-mail accounts:
- Once on the E-mail Management Screen, similar to that
depicted below, we press the Delete button next
to the account we wish to delete. In this case, we will
be deleting the account we just created, mango@healthyjuice.com.
- You will next be prompted to confirm deletion of the
E-mail Box.
NOTE: Deleting an E-mail Box will result
in any messages in that E-mail Box being permanently
deleted. You may confirm the deletion by pressing
the Delete Button, or abort by clicking
on your browser's back button:
- SiteWorx will confirm that your deletion has been successful.
Managing Aliases Part 1: Creating a New Alias
An additional aspect of Mailbox management in SiteWorx
involves the management of e-mail aliases: "shadow" e-mail
addresses that automatically forward all messages received
to other e-mail addresses. In this part of the tutorial,
we will look at creating, editing and deleting such aliases.
- Once we have logged in and are on the E-mail management
screen, we must select the appropriate option to manage
our aliases. There are three locations you can click
on to do this; the Aliases sub-menu item on the left
Control Panel (1), the Alises Menu item in the E-mail
Management sub-window (2), or the text "Aliases" in the
E-mail Stats listing (3), as depicted below:
- Upon clicking on one of these options, we are taken
to the Alias Management screen, similar to that depicted
below:
- To create a new alias, we simply enter the alias e-mail
address and the address we wish all messages from that
alias to be forwarded to. In the example below, all messages
sent to apple@healthyjuice.com will go to reece@ocis.net.
Important NOTE: To create a "catch-all" alias,
use the e-mail address "default" (in our case, this
would be default@healthyjuice.com) in the E-mail
Address input box.
- In order for our changes to take effect, we must press
the Add button.
- As illustrated below, SiteWorx informs us that the
alias has been added successfully. This newly created
alias, which automatically forwards all mail from apple@healthyjuice.com
to reece@ocis.net, may be edited or deleted at will.
Managing
Aliases Part 2: Managing Existing Aliases
There are also instances where currently existing aliases
need to be edited (i.e. require a change in "forward to" address)
or deleted. Following are details on how to peform these
tasks.
- We will begin by editing our current alias, apple@healthyjuice.com,
so that it forwards e-mails to banana@yellow.com. To
accomplish this, we first press the Edit button
adjacent to the apple@healthyjuice.com account listing:
- Next, we replace reece@ocis.net with banana@yellow.com
in the Forwards To: input box:
- By clicking on the Edit button, or change will take
effect:
- SiteWorx reports that the change has been successful:
We will continue by now deleting our alias.
- From the Alias Management screen, we must click on
the Delete button adjacent to the alias we wish
to delete:
- We must confirm the deletion by clicking on the Delete button.
As always, to abort confirmation, we may press the Back
button on our web browser. Upon pressing the Delete button,
as depicted below, our alias will be deleted.
- SiteWorx will confirm our success:
Managing Groups Part 1: Creating a New Group
There are occasions when it is useful to have an e-mail
address that redirects mail to multiple recipients. This
is a task that is streamlined via SiteWorx's E-mail Group
functionality. Following is more detailed information on
how to create such a group.
In the example below, we will create a group e-mail address,
vegetables@healthyjuice.com, which sends e-mail to carrots@healthyjuice.com,
celery@healthyjuice.com, beets@healthyjuice.com and turnips@healthyjuice.com.
- Once we have logged in and are on the E-mail management
screen, we must select the appropriate option to manage
our aliases. There are three locations you can click
on to do this; the Groups sub-menu item on the left Control
Panel (1), the Groups Menu item in the E-mail Management
sub-window (2), or the text "Groups" in the E-mail Stats
listing (3), as depicted below:
- Upon clicking on one of these options, we are taken
to the Group Management screen, similar to that depicted
below:
- In order to create a new Group, we must enter the
group's e-mail address in addition to the addresses of
all those who will be forwarded the group's e-mail.
NOTE: E-mail addresses in the Forwards
To: Input Box must be entered one-per-line.
Additional NOTE: Groups created using
this facility do not have access-control restrictions;
therefore, there is no way of controlling who can
send e-mail to all members of a given group.
- In order for our changes to take effect, we must press
the Add button.
- As illustrated below, SiteWorx informs us that the
group has been added successfully.
Managing Groups Part 2: Managing Existing Groups
Often, it may be necessary to edit existing groups, to
modify their membership, or to delete groups outright when
they are no longer needed. Following is an overview of
how such is accomplished in SiteWorx.
- We will begin by editing our current group, vegetables@healthyjuice.com,
so that turnips@healthyjuice.com is replaced by rutabagas@healthyjuice.com.
We will also delete carrots@healthyjuice.com from our
group. To accomplish this, we first press the Edit button
next to the group from the Group management screen:
- Next, we replace turnips@healthyjuice.com with rutabagas@healthyjuice.com,
and simply delete the row that contains carrots@healthyjuice.com.
- By clicking on the Save button, our change
will take effect:
- SiteWorx reports that the change has been successful:
We will continue by now deleting our group.
- From the Group Management screen, we must click on
the Delete button adjacent to the group we wish
to delete:
- We must confirm the deletion by clicking on the Delete button.
As always, to abort confirmation, we may press the Back
button on our web browser. Upon pressing the Delete button,
as depicted below, our group will be deleted.
- SiteWorx will confirm our success:
